Show Opens Tomorrow in Miami Florida
I’m creating a painting and including some art in this show in Miami which opens tomorrow.
If you are in the area I hope you can attend! The show will continue until January, you may call the number below for details.
Â
I met with Dr Babacar Mbow last night and was very impressed with his vision for the show. I’m starting my installation this afternoon.Â
GLOBALECTICS privileges the more discreet approach of artists whose work retains a real liberating dimension.”GLOBALECTICS is derived from the shape of the globe. On its surface, there is no center. As for the internal center of the globe, all points on the surface are equidistant to it.” The central point is “articulation” as a way of characterizing contemporary visual productions without falling in the twin traps of reductionism and essentialism.
GLOBALECTICS moves away from a perception of art as an objective, a formal tool and a “value free” heuristic device. It resists thinking in terms of “center” where legitimacy is surrendered. It rejects assumptions of the artists’ success in a formulation to which we have acquiesce rather than run the risk of being suspected of incompetence or being marginalized.
GLOBALECTICS: AESTHETICS AND THE POLITICS OF LIGITIMIZATION
The 13th annual exhibition, coinciding with the Art Basel Miami Week, aims at exploring transnational, issues of marginalization and legitimization as
well as diversity and artistic solidarity in the struggle against an art world that seems to have gone mad. 25 artists from 5 continents explore these issues as they relate to their racial, geographical, economic and cultural location. The annual exhibition is a production by the Florida Africana Diaspora Studies Consortium.
